In the Office
I joined Define Financial in 2019 and became a partner in 2021, because this is where I do my best work, for the families who matter most to me.
My skills and interests lean toward processes and analytics. But being data-driven isn’t about overwhelming people with information—it’s about cutting through the noise so clients can make smart, confident retirement decisions. I thrive on taking complex problems, breaking them down, and turning them into clear, actionable recommendations.
As a partner, I’m deeply invested in how this firm operates and grows. I’m always looking for smarter systems and better processes, because every improvement means more time and energy directed where it counts: our clients.
That drive extends to the relationships themselves. I bring the same energy to a client meeting as I do to building the infrastructure behind it. At Define, doing right by our clients and running a great firm aren’t separate goals, they’re the same one.
Behind the Scenes
I did not start out as a financial advisor.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in financial economics, I became a shipyard construction manager for a large government contractor. Good work, but I kept finding myself more interested in the financial planning I was doing on the side than anything happening on the job site. That gap kept growing until it was impossible to ignore.
In 2015, I met Taylor Schulte—Define Financial’s founder—and told him I wanted to make the career switch. His response: “go pass the CFP® exam if you’re serious.” So that’s exactly what I did.
What drives me now is personal. I know what it’s like to lie awake wondering if you’re making the right decisions for your family’s future. Having been on both sides of that equation, I’ve found exactly where I’m supposed to be.
Outside of the Office

Family
My wife and I have two sons and an energetic border collie-terrier mix named Stella. A San Diego native, I remain close with my parents, in-laws, and longtime friends who still call this city home.

Handyman
I’m a financial nerd by trade, but a jack of all trades at home, installing turf in my yard, installing recessed lighting, and building a retaining wall. If it needs doing, I’ll figure it out.

Community Man
As a proud member of Advisors Growing As A Community (AGC) and the Financial Planning Association, I enjoy helping and learning from the best and brightest in this profession.

Sports Fan
If it involves a football, count me in. I credit much of my work ethic to values instilled playing Division III football in college. Since the Chargers left town, I’ve made it a tradition to visit one new NFL stadium every fall.
